Tyler is in second grade. In first grade they had spelling tests weekly. When he entered the second grade we were informed that they no longer would be focusing on spelling because the literacy coach (and some sort of research) show that it isn't pertinant to second grade and under.
Excuse me - he doesn't need to now how to spell?
You will not find a spelling bee happening anywhere in our school.
Enough parents freaked out about this that Tyler's teacher decided that she would implement her own spelling work - it would not count as a factor in passing second grade - but she would do it. She puts the weekly words on the board and assigns 5 and then they get to pick 5. Tyler always picks hard words.
This week he chose meteorologist.
This is his goal in life - to be one - so I guess knowing how to spell it would be a great start.
He did it! He got it right and another 100 on his test! He has gotten a 100 the past 5 weeks so we are on a roll and he doesn't want to break it so this week was stressful with this BIG word. He was so proud he had to show everyone.
This morning we went to church. His Sunday school teacher greets him and his first comment - I can spell meterologist - m-e-t-e-o-r-o-l-o-g-i-s-t.
